Home Performance & Technology
Designing & Building Lasting Memories
Midwest Homes Inc. company philosophy is to provide clients well designed and constructed home that is value engineered and a home that works as a complete system. A “High Performance Home”. A high performance home looks at the overall house rather than individual parts like insulation or mechanical systems. Everything from rigid insulation on the exterior of the concrete foundation walls and exterior framed walls, u value of the windows and doors, the insulation in the walls and ceilings, but also includes looking at furnace and air conditioning equipment sizing and thermostat controls and or zoning of the HVAC system. We also need to look at mechanical ventilation of the home to provide fresh air into the home and options for air filtering at the furnace for indoor air quality. Sometimes you are better off upgrading insulation versus upgrading mechanical equipment as you may get more value (savings over time) at less upfront costs.
We take all of these components along with guidelines from the “Green Built Home” program and the “Focus on Energy-New Homes Program” to create the best value for the dollar for our clients, but that is only part of a “high performance home”. A true high performance home also integrates smart home technology to improve the functionality of the home for you the client. Now days your phone can connect to your car to improve safety and comfort, why shouldn’t your home do the same. We provide as a base system in all of our homes that includes, a wired network with distribution panel in lower level mechanical room as well as a wireless router all connected to a Control4 processor. This allows the wireless “NEST” thermostats and your mobile devices or cell phone to talk to each other. The control 4 systems is also expandable to include lighting control, security systems, security cameras, whole house audio and much more.
